Rev. Dr. Marcus Cosby is an American preacher, evangelist, author, and speaker. He serves as the senior pastor of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church in Houston, Texas.
Biography
Dr. Marcus D. Cosby, the third child of the late Mr. Rogers Cosby and Mrs. Bobbie J. Cosby, hails proudly from Chicago, Illinois. Since his early years, Dr. Cosby has actively participated in church activities. Reverend Dr. L.K. Curry, the pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Chicago, granted him a license to preach and ordained him for the Christian Ministry.
Now, Dr. Cosby serves as the senior pastor at Wheeler Baptist Church. He has shared his insights through lectures, preaching, and teaching in various settings, including conferences, conventions, retreats, revivals, and on university and seminary campuses.

Reverend Dr. Cosby is married to his high school sweetheart, Mrs. Audrey Marie Cosby. The couple has been blessed with three beautiful daughters named Adrienne Marie, Ashley Marie, and Aliyah Marie, as well as two sons, Marcus D., II, and Matthew D. Cosby.
Ministry
Currently, Rev. Cosby serves as the Senior Pastor of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. He became the successor to the Founding Pastor, Dr. William A. Lawson, in 2004 after serving as Associate Pastor since 1998.
Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church now hosts four Sunday worship services and has over 15,000 members. The church established the Wheeler Avenue Christian Academy, providing education for children from pre-kindergarten through second grade.
In Houston’s Third Ward, Rev. Dr. Cosby established a transitional housing center for single homeless moms. Additionally, he initiated a missional outreach in several South African villages, demonstrating his commitment to positively influencing the lives of the abandoned and forgotten wherever they may be found.
Career
Dr. Cosby is actively engaged in various roles and affiliations. He serves as a trustee on the board of his alma mater, Fisk University, where he chairs the committee for academic excellence and student engagement. Additionally, he is a member of the university’s general alumni association.
His involvement extends to several advisory boards, including The Gardner C. Taylor Preaching Archives and Listening Room in Atlanta, Georgia, the Samuel Dewitt Proctor Conference, the Houston Area Urban League, Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston, the Texas Commission for Community Service and Volunteerism, and the African American Pulpit.
Rev. Dr. Cosby is a dedicated member of the NAACP, Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He also contributes to academia as an adjunct professor of homiletics at the Houston Graduate School of Theology. Previously, he taught the subject at the ITC’s Houston extension program and led the training of over 100 ministers in the Clergy Team of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church.
Dr. Cosby earned admission to Morehouse College’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Board of Preachers in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2008. Additionally, he founded and serves as CEO of Preaching with Power and Authority Ministries since 2013, dedicated to the teaching and promotion of contemporary, biblical preaching for the twenty-first century.
