Biography

Natalie Diane Grant was born on December 21, 1971, in Seattle, Washington. She began her teaching training at Northwest College in Kirkland, Washington (now Northwest University). Initially, she believed her musical talents should only be shared within her local church until she figured out God’s true calling for her life. This led her to change her career and start singing Christian music.

Later on, she ventured into the music industry and released three albums between 1999 and 2003, but most of her hits came in the later years of her career.

Natalie Grant’s husband is Bernie Herms, a Canadian producer. They are blessed with three daughters named Grace and Isabella (born in 2007) and Sadie (born in 2010). Natalie moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where she currently resides with her husband and their three daughters.

Career

Natalie Grant began her journey in modern Christian music when she auditioned for the touring group Truth. To pursue her solo career, she moved to Nashville, Tennessee. In 1997, she secured a record deal with Benson Records and wrote her self-titled debut, released in 1999.

After leaving Benson, she signed with Pamplin Music and released “Stronger” in 2001. Following the closure of Pamplin Records, she joined Curb Records and has released five solo albums to date, starting with “Deeper Life” in 2003. Her breakthrough came in 2005 with the RIAA-certified gold album “Awaken.” Subsequent albums include “Love Revolution” (2010) and “Hurricane” (2013).

In 2008, she toured with MercyMe, and she contributed to Crystal Aikin’s debut album with the song “Breathe On Me.” Grant also took part in the Women of Faith conference and went on the Speaking Louder Than Before tour in 2008.

Grant’s television movie “Decision” for the Gospel Music Channel aired in October 2011. She hosted the GSN-exclusive game show “It Takes a Church,” which debuted on June 5, 2014.

In September 2020, she released her tenth studio album, “No Stranger,” featuring the lead song “My Weapon” released on February 21, 2020.

Natalie Grant, along with Danny Gokey, announced a Christmas Tour in December 2023, covering eight cities with a special guest feature from Mac Powell.

Philanthropy

Natalie Grant is involved in campaigns against human trafficking. Her interest in the issue sparked after watching a Law & Order episode. To understand more, she and her husband visited India, witnessing red-light districts and anti-trafficking efforts. This experience changed Natalie’s life and influenced her approach to music.

In 2005, Natalie founded The Home Foundation, now called Abolition International. Her goal is to combat sex trafficking through campaigns, education, aftercare accreditation, and providing recovery houses for victims.

For her efforts against human trafficking, Natalie Grant received the Bishop Ketteler Award for Social Justice from the Sisters of Divine Providence on October 23, 2012.
