Biography

Born to the Honorable Bishop Winfield and First Lady Genevieve Francis Showell, Bishop Carolyn Showell is the next to the youngest of 10 children. Her brother, Franklin C. Showell, is also an ordained Bishop. Bishop Showell is a charismatic and brilliant speaker. She works with many vibrant ministries in America as a consultant for church reform. She organizes and leads conferences, workshops, and seminars on topics including leadership development, personal growth, spiritual formation, church growth, and the development of faith-based enterprises. Additionally, Bishop Showell is a well-known and highly sought-after woman of God, known for her dramatic teaching and preaching of God’s Word.

Education

Carolyn received a B.A. from Goucher College in Towson, Maryland. She earned a Master of Divinity from the Union Theological Seminary in New York with a focus on psychology and theology. Additionally, she holds a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Carolina University of Theology. In 1993, Bishop Showell received a scholarship at the Columbia University School of Business, where she studied nonprofit organization management. She later earned a certificate in faith-based economic development from the Harvard University Summer Leadership Institute in June 2000. Dr. Showell returned to Harvard as a member of the teaching faculty in 2001 and 2002. Since then, she has been chosen to serve on the steering committee of the Harvard Divinity School’s Black Alumni/ae Network.

Career

Bishop Showell is an ordained minister of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc., leading its leadership development arm, “the Sacred College.” She serves as the dean of the Senior Shepard’s Track and is a member of the Pastoral Board of the Joint College of Bishops. Additionally, Bishop Showell is the executive pastor of First Apostolic Faith Church in Baltimore, Maryland. In 2014, she became the first female bishop ordained by the Global United Fellowship. Alongside her roles in ministry, she has worked as a psychometrist for Baltimore City Schools and holds a license as a Christian therapist.

Bishop Showell founded Transformed, Inc., a private Christian counseling practice and support service organization. With academic achievements, she completed the Advanced Studies Degree in Psychology at Loyola University and pursued a second Ph.D. program in Jewish and Biblical studies at Baltimore Hebrew University. Currently, she serves as a professor of Old Testament at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Her diverse professional experience includes roles as a program and special projects developer at the Johns Hopkins School of Business and Administration, a mental health expert, a psychometrist, and a consultant for AT&T in Racism and Cultural Diversity.
